Goethe University Frankfurt am Main

Frankfurt University is one of the leading research universities in Germany. Around 2,500 professors and academic staff carry out research in 16 departments. The university is at the forefront of research in areas such as law and finance, life sciences (especially membrane proteomics, RNA-ligands interaction, and bimolecular nuclear magnetic resonance), drug research, cognitive neuroscience, heavy ions physics and interdisciplinary research on Africa. Research in the humanities at Frankfurt University ranked second in a survey of all German universities carried out by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation). Research activities in the areas of finance, money and law will be brought together in the House of Finance, which will be established in the coming years. Homepage

Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences

The Institute was founded in 2009 as part of the Cluster of Excellence Frankfurt Molecular Complexes, shortly after the Wissenschaftsrat recommended funding of a new Cluster building. We aim at understanding macromolecular complexes, in particular the molecular mechanisms underlying cellular functions. The Institute is composed of twelve scientific groups from various disciplines including biology, physics, chemistry, and medicine. We are dedicated to perform basic research with biomedical relevance, to train young scientists, and to develop frontier technologies in life sciences. Homepage

Cluster of Excellence Frankfurt

The Cluster of Excellence „Macromolecular Complexes“ at the Goethe University Frankfurt (CEF) was established in November 2006. Research at the CEF aims at understanding macromolecular complexes, in particular the molecular mechanisms and functional consequences underlying the interactions of biological macromolecules in the cell, or in the cell membrane. CEF was selected in the 2006 excellence initiative for substantial funding by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) for an initial 5 year period. In 2012, the DFG funding was extended for another 5 years. The Cluster is dedicated to scientific excellence and early independence of young researchers, and aims to achieve international visibility as a leading centre for research and teaching in the life sciences. CEF is an interdisciplinary centre within the Goethe University Frankfurt, assigned directly to the University President. Homepage

European Research Council

The ERC's mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields, on the basis of scientific excellence.

The ERC complements other funding activities in Europe such as those of the national research funding agencies, and is a flagship component of Horizon 2020, the European Union's Research Framework Programme for 2014 to 2020. Homepage
